California may be home to some of the greatest sports associations in the nation, and the city of Bakersfield has a few teams operating out of their city that locals can get pumped about. Though the sports teams in Bakersfield, CA are small and rarely attract national attention, they still have a large following among locals. If you’re looking for something to do in Bakersfield, here are some local sporting events you don’t’ want to miss.
Condors Hockey in Bakersfield, CA
The Condors are a hockey team based out of Bakersfield. They are a newly revigorated team, making their debut in 2015. They originally played under a different name and with a different league. From 1995 to 2003, they were known as the Oilers and played in the WCHL during that time. From 2003 to 2015, their name was the Fog, and they played in the ECHL. They are currently part of the American Hockey League and are based out of the Rabobank Arena. Since they are still developing, the Condors have yet to win a championship, but keep an eye on them. Their events are exciting, and the locals get riled up to support the Condors games.
Train Robbers Baseball in CA
The Train Robbers are a minor league baseball team. Also new to the area, the Train Robbers were established back in 2013 as a part of the Pecos League. The Train Robbers have moved from Topeka, New Mexico, to Las Vegas before finally making Bakersfield their permanent home. The Train Robbers are filling in the hole left by the Blaze, who were part of the California league that disbanded in 2016.The Train Robbers may be new, but their recent history shows them as capable advisories to the others in the minor leagues.
The Jams Basketball
Originally from Long Beach, the Jams were established in 2003 and were a part of the ABA League. They moved to Bakersfield and switched over to the D-League in 2006. However, last year, the Jams were packed up and sent to Arizona. Their name was changed to the Northern Arizona Suns. And though they are still apart of the NBA D-League, they no longer represent Bakersfield. Though fans of this team will miss having the Jams around, in the meantime, the city must find a new basketball team to cheer on.
The Bakersfield College football team known as the Renegades is a favorite among locals. A part of the Western State Conference, they have had tremendous success in the past and fans are always excited to see what they will bring to the field next. Should you be in town during the season, make sure to stop in and enjoy a game.
Though their sports team may come and go, what the crowds really gather around for are the many racing events. With spots like the Speedway and Kern County Raceway, citizens come out in droves for these racing events. Not to mention the boat racing events that they hold. So plan to stop into the track for a night a fun and fast cars.
