Sports Teams in Oakland, CA
Oakland, CA seems to be the place where professional sports does not want to be. The teams that have been located in the city all have the want to leave and all have plans to do so. The residents love their teams, but city councils and owners are not too keen on fighting for the clubs to stay. That hasn’t stopped professional teams from being a part of the city’s rich history. Sports is a big part of every community no matter if they have professional sports or recreational sports, or if they’re a part of a small town or a large city.
The Raiders is an NFL team that originally played in San Francisco but has played in the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum for many years now. They started as a part of the American Football League but became a part of the NFL when they merged in 1970. Today they compete in the American Football Conference West division in the NFL.
The Raiders have a long history that has many bumps in the road. In its early years, the club had financial difficulties, an on-field performance that struggled, and spotty attendance to the games. Their troubles didn’t last too long and, by the 1970s, they began to succeed.
There was a lot of controversy surrounding the team in 1982, making them move from Oakland, CA to Los Angeles. They stayed there for over ten years but returned to Oakland, CA in 1995. In March of 2017, there was an almost unanimous decision among the club owners to move the Raiders to Las Vegas, Nevada. Depending on the completion of their new stadium, the Raiders will call Sin City their home in 2019 or 2020.

It was in 1971 that the team changed the name to reflect the whole state of California and not just the Bay area. It was also in this year where most of the Warrior’s home games were played in Oakland. In the past few years, the club has been in the process of trying to relocate back to San Francisco.
