Football at the Forefront in Arvada, CO
If your heart swells with the patriotism that accompanies a game of some good American Football, the Denver Broncos will give you an experience of Arvada you will remember. They joined the NFL in 1970. The Broncos are three-time Super Bowl Champions with league victories in 1997, 1998, and 2015.
The team, however, has held the AFC Champion title eight times: 1977, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1997, 1998, 2013, and 2015. Five of their players—John Elway, Floyd Little, Gary Zimmerman, Shannon Sharpe, and Terrell Davis—are represented in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Broncos’ home stadium, Sports Authority Field at Mile High, is just an eighteen-minute drive outside of Arvada.
The Sports Authority Field at Mile High has been the home of the Broncos since 2001. What better way is there to really appreciate the Colorado spirit than to find yourself cheering on the home team at their home stadium!
Baseball for Everyone in Arvada, CO
The Colorado Rockies are also a great team to check out. This baseball team was founded in 1993 and has been playing at Coors Field since 1995. The Colorado Rockies play in the Western Division of the National League.
They were the National League Wild Card winners in 1995, 2007, and 2009, and they were the National League Champions in 2007. Many of their players—including Jerry McMorris, Keli McGregor, Vinny Castilla, Andres Galarraga, Todd Helton, Don Baylor, and Larry Walker—hold places in the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.
Larry Walker was also voted the most outstanding player in the history of the franchise. With Coors Field located only 20 minutes outside of Arvada by car and players who have been praised time and time again, there is no reason you should avoid taking yourself out to the ball game while you are there!
Nuggets for the Win!
If football and baseball do not excite you, do not worry. Denver’s basketball team, the Denver Nuggets, will also give you a game you will not forget. Much like the home turf for both the football and baseball teams, the home court of the Denver Nuggets, the Pepsi Center, is located only twenty minutes outside of Arvada, CO.
The Nuggets were founded in 1967 under the name the Denver Larks. The name was not changed to the Denver Nuggets until 1974. Just two years after in 1976, the Denver Nuggets became part of the National Basketball Association.
Eight members of the Nuggets—Dan Issel, David Thompson, Alex English, Sarunas Marciulionis, Spencer Haywood, Dikembe Mutombo, Allen Iverson, and George McGinnis—and two of the coaches—Alex Hannum and Larry Brown—are represented in the Basketball Hall of Fame. The adrenaline high of team spirit and the overall enthusiasm of the Pepsi Center are definitely worth a visit.
