A Brief Timeline of Garland, TX
Garland is a city in Dallas County that neighbors Dallas and Fort Worth, TX. You may be unaware of the powerful history behind this Texan city. The strong community, numerous amenities, or large manufacturing establishments had to undergo quite some hardships to get to where they are today. Let’s walk through a brief timeline of Garlands history.
The 1800's in Garland, TX
In 1850, the land where Garland, TX lies was discovered. It wasn’t until 25 years later that a large number of its population was recorded. A few years there after two communities were formed. Because both groups had different plans for their homeland they remained separate and this brought a lot of conflicts. The communities were known as Embree and Duck Creek.
Among the many disagreements these rivaling cities had, both communities had the desire to acquire a post office. Eventually, both sections came to an agreement and decided to establish a post office in the boundaries of the two areas. Uniting authorities put this conflict to an end and consequently, Garland was established on April 18, 1891. The population of this city was only about 500 people and the city was named after Attorney General A.H. Garland, Embree, and Duck Creek.
The years passed leading to the 1930's where businesses boomed at an alarming rate. This city became one of the fastest growing cities in America during this time. In 1950, it reached 10,291 residents when the war production gave the city its biggest economic and population increase. Just as everything was marching in place, the Texan city suffered the wrath of World War II in the 1960s. Despite this setback to all the progress that was made the residents managed this crisis very well and worked together to improve and repair their home.
In the 2000's there were several improvements made and the city began to grow once again. Located in the northeastern part of downtown Dallas, Garland is projected to continue to expand. Holding more than 375 manufacturers among them being Sherwin Williams, Kraft Foods, and General Dynamics, the city’s population continues to grow. Home to several public works, quality schools, businesses sports facilities, and so much more, it is one of the most industrialized places in Texas.
The city continues to expand to become an even more powerful community. It is the 12th most populated city in TX and second in Dallas County. The progress this Texas city has made throughout the year shows in the awards and recognitions received. In the year 2008, CNN and Money Magazine ranked it number 67 on their list of “Top 100 Places to Live”.
Not only is it a great place to live, buy a home, or raise a family, but there is also an abundance of employment opportunities and a great selection of schools.
