The city of Cedar Park, TX offers quite a bit in terms of athletic enjoyment through watching and playing. There’s a little something for everyone who enjoys watching and playing sports. The city is home to two major sports teams that practice and play. One is an AHL hockey team and the other is an NBA G League team.
The Texas Stars are an American Hockey League team that’s affiliated with the NHL Dallas Stars. They came to be when the Iowa Stars announced they would no longer be affiliated with the Dallas Stars in 2008. The following year the AHL gave the owner of the Dallas Stars Tom Hicks a provisional franchise in the Austin area if he purchased an AHL franchise that already existed within the year. He did just that and bought the Iowa Chops (who were the Iowa Stars) on May 4th, 2010. They’ve been a pretty successful hockey team since their founding and went on to win the Calder Cup in 2014. They were also bought by the ownership group that owns their parent club and redesigned their jerseys to look more like the Dallas Stars’ jerseys in 2015. They play their home games at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
Out of their 12 seasons, the Austin Spurs have made the postseason 7 times. The Spurs were originally founded in Columbus, Georgia under the name of Columbus Riverdragons but was sold in 2005 to Southwest Basketball LLC. Following the purchase, the team was relocated to Austin, Texas. The name was changed to fit their new surroundings, now taking the name the Austin Toros. In the summer of 2007, the San Antonio Spurs acquired the Toros, making them the second D-League team in History to have NBA owners. Three years later they would move to Cedar Park, TX and change their name to the Austin Spurs in 2014 to reference their parent team. They also play their games at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.

Besides catching a pro game at the H-E-B center, residents can participate in, and watch, sports games from their local leagues. The city of Cedar Park, Texas has a coed kickball league and multiple coed softball leagues for adults to join. Their softball leagues also contain some separated by gender as well as some separated by level of play.
