Local Sports Teams in New Braunfels, TX
Residents of New Braunfels, TX, have active lives. They have a number of leagues and sports teams that have resulted from the athletic community. In addition to providing fun ways to stay healthy and fit, these teams also provide amusing entertainment for spectators to enjoy. Whether you like to watch the classics like football, basketball, baseball and soccer, or prefer something more unique, New Braunfels is likely to have a league or organization with a team for you to cheer on. Here are four good ones to look out for:
1. The Texas Bombers
The Texas Bombers are a junior Olympic, non-profit softball organization. A competitive league, their goal is to train and develop young women athletes who will soon compete for college scholarships. The teams are ranked nationally and train at a training facility and batting cages especially made for them. Catch the girls at one of their home games or travel with them to cheer them on at an away game. Nothing beats hometown spirit and supporting young athletes working towards their dream.
2. Landa Park Dolphins
For a less conventional sports watching experience, catch the Landa Park Dolphins during their summer swim team competitions or at the Winter Games of Texas. The Dolphins practice at the New Braunfels Aquatic Club and compete at both local and away clubs. The summer season takes place from May through August. The Winter Games of Texas take place in Frisco in mid-January and are a part of the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation. If you enjoy the water and have a need for speed, watch these super-fast swimmers beat out the competition.
3. New Braunfels High School Unicorns
The New Braunfels Unicorns boast a number of sports teams. They have basketball, baseball, soccer, softball, tennis, and of course, the crowd favorite, football. When high school football season comes around, small towns come alive. The Friday night lights, the colorful jerseys filling the stadium, the cheap stadium food, and the roar of the school cheers are a delight for everyone on the field and in the stands.
Another Unicorns team is tennis. The Unicorns have won seven state titles in tennis since 2007. With such a successful history, tennis fans have much to look forward to every year as the Unicorns go head to head on the courts in hopes of bringing another title to their school and town.
4. Smithson Valley High School Rangers
The neighboring Comal Independent School District is home to Smithson Valley High School. The Smithson Valley Rangers are one of the main competitors of the Unicorns. Games where the two rivals go head to head are sure to be packed with amusing entertainment. Catch a game at Rangers Stadium or Unicorn Stadium for some good, clean, hometown fun.
The New Braunfels Athletic Legacy
Just because most of the teams in New Braunfels are centered on youth doesn’t mean they aren’t entertaining. If anything, it’s more entertaining to watch a little league game or a high school football game than it is to watch some professional games. The athletic ties to the city are strong, with swim meet traditions dating back to the 1960's and volleyball tournaments still taking place 30 years later. Love of the game has been passed on through the generations that have lived here and now lives on through the kids on the field and the parents, friends, and family cheering them on from the sidelines.
